Use of high-frequency RFID technology in cloud-based technology management for
autonomous process optimization using intelligent tools
The project aims to optimize manufacturing processes, essentially by bridging the gap between the digital factory and the real factory and back again. Tools for machining are enabled as “smart objects” to communicate with a higher-level database via web services and provide information about the current application in operation.
On the one hand, the individual tools are used reliably until the end of their maximum possible service life according to the entries in their “life cycle file”. On the other hand, the swarm of data-collecting tools constantly generates better reference data, which enables ever “sharper”, tried-and-tested recommendations for use.
This creates the conditions for technology management to implement innovative business models (“Google for the industry”) that previously only worked in the consumer sector.
A network is being created that uses the “force of the many” to create a growing knowledge base that drastically reduces the need to carry out tests (“crowd intelligence”). The key to the success of the project will be a new type of sensor/RFID technology to identify the tools everywhere without confusion and to “feed” online operating data into a higher-level technology database via a communication unit to be developed (“tachograph”, as our contribution to this project).
